Scorpio Sun, Libra Moon: the Romantic Hero and the Hitman with a Heart ("I’ve soared with the eagles and slithered with the snakes and been everywhere in between.")

November 10th, 2012 1 comment

Scorpio is sign of the Shaman and the Spy, the Hitman and the Detective, the Investment Banker and the Contract Killer, the Emotional Cryptographer and the Clandestine Encounter, the Criminal Deviant and the Depth Psychologist, the Covert Op and the Deep Cover Cop. The sign most associated with intense passion and ice-cold resolve, Scorpio can go from red-hot to cold-blooded as fast as the temperature can change in the desert. Actor Charles Bronson, best known for portraying freelance hitmen and vigilante cowboys, is representative of a Scorpio Sun’s penchant for intrigue, conspiracies, and matters of life-and-death intensity:

It’s within relationships that Scorpio’s emotional intensity is expressed in its purest, most potent form. According to astrologer Sonya Magett, “Scorpio can be intensely possessive and struggle with jealousy throughout their lives.” (Source)

Scorpio’s next door neighbor is Libra, the sign of the Lover, the Artist, the Peacemaker, the Diplomat, the Statesmen, the Counselor, and the Art Collector. This is the sign most directly associated with elegance, social harmony, and an innate awareness of the other. All Moon signs have some type of need for romantic relationships but for a Libra Moon romance is as much a necessity as food, water, and air. Playwright William Shakespeare – best known for writing the romantic tragedy Romeo and Juliet – is a representative Libra Moon. (Chart)

The innate sense of “the other” is also what endows Libra Moons with an instinctual understanding of aesthetics. People with their Moon in this graceful sign know how to harmonize clothing and color schemes in much the same way a diplomat knows how to harmonize agendas and interpersonal dynamics. Louis Vuitton, founder of the high end clothing empire which bears his name, is a Libra Moon. (Chart)

Scorpio Sun, Libra Moon: Acts Like Charles Bronson, Dresses Like Louis Vuitton

Combine the psychological intensity of a Scorpio Sun ala Charles Bronson with the romantic instincts of a Libra Moon ala William Shakespeare and you get a Sun/Moon pairing which will be extremely oriented towards one-to-one relationships. Astrologer Carolyn Reynolds describes this pairing’s capacity for romance:

This is one of the most charming men of the Sun/Moon combination, and the romantic par excellence. He is magnetic, persuasive, ardent and loyal. In one hypnotic nod he gestures he understands you, both physically and emotionally. He lives to understand you. He will calm and reassure you in the midst of his own inner turmoil that you are totally oblivious to.

What does he need to accomplish to balance out his life? To find the right partner. His every emotional fiber calls out for a mate. He needs to share his dreams, his goals, and every waking moment with someone. He looks for beauty in a woman, and for style as well as elegance. Scorpio or Capricorn hangs in there for years with this pairing.(Source)

Professional wrestling legend Randy “Macho Man” Savage, is a Scorpio Sun, Libra Moon. (Chart) Savage’s most compelling performances coincided with his real life marriage to Elizabeth Hulette (aka “Miss Elizabeth”), a woman known for her beauty, style, and elegance who happened to be a Scorpio with a Venus/Jupiter conjunction in Capricorn. (Source) That Savage’s career peak came during his marriage is no surprise as Scorpio/Libra individuals only feel themselves when in a compelling partnership.

Savage and Hewlett had actually been married for eight years when the above storyline was developed. Although wedding was staged reports were that both took it as an opportunity to renew their relationship in real life.

Scorpio Sun, Libra Moon is not only one of the most romantic of the 144 Sun/Moon pairings, it’s also one of the most psychologically potent and intensely self-expressive. During his career Savage was renown for his ability to project as psychologically unhinged as Charles Bronson (Scorpio Sun) even as he was dressed as stylishly as Louis Vuitton (Libra Moon). In their book Sun Sign, Moon Sign, astrologers Suzi and Charles Harvey emphasize the Scorpio Sun, Libra Moon individual’s instinctual understanding of madness and capacity for intensely dramatic forms of self-expression:

You are pretty tough cookie, and if you cannot charm your way to the prize, you can certainly turn on the pressure. Although you optimistically hope for the best, you can be shrewdly understanding of the mad, the bad, and the ugly. . . . you need to have access to the dark and terrible to be able to put the boot in, so to speak.

You have a vivid imagination, a keen sense of drama, and probably rhythm, too, and if you take off in an artistic direction you can develop a very subtle yet eloquent manner of self-expression. You can be a charismatic showman with a dramatic delivery. (Source)

Take a look at any circa 1980s clip of Savage for a high volume but fundamentally accurate example of this pairing’s capacity for “eloquent self-expression”, “charismatic showmanship”, and willingness to access the “dark and terrible” parts of the psyche in order to “put the boot in”. All of this was done in pursuit of “the prize”, which for Savage was main-event billing at big time pay-per-views such as Wrestlemania. Given this pairing’s intensely (Scorpio) romantic (Libra) orientation, it’s probably no coincidence that Savage’s most “vividly imaginative” interviews and “keenly dramatic” in-ring performances were those where his beloved was at his side.

Astrologer Jefferson Anderson emphasizes this pairing’s skill at balancing color schemes and ability to succeed in “visually oriented fields such as photography, film, fashion, or interior design.” (Source) If Savage’s wildly colorful ensembles make one thing clear, it’s that the ability to expertly balance color schemes and accessories while projecting as “mad, bad, and ugly” is one of the Scorpio Sun, Libra Moon native’s most clearly delineated strengths.

The combination of a Scorpio Sun’s psychological x-ray vision and a Libra Moon’s instincts for reciprocity endows this pairing with a real aptitude for coaxing the best out of “the other”. This applies in professional relationships as much as in romantic ones. During his wrestling career Savage was greatly admired by colleagues for his ability to make even the most brutish of performers look like polished superstars in the ring. Had he not gone into wrestling he probably could have achieved fame in partner dancing, or at least done very well on a show like “Dancing With the Stars”. Rapper Rob Van Winkle, best known as “Vanilla Ice”, is a Scorpio/Libra whose experienced something of a career resurgence as a result of his superb performances on such shows in Europe:

Each of the 144 Sun/Moon pairings has its own dark side. A pairing as intensely dramatic as Scorpio Sun, Libra Moon is going to have a dark side as intensely dramatic as its light side. The “dark and terrible” side of this pairing is most likely to express itself when the native feels injustices have occurred within the context of a one-to-one partnership, whether romantic or professional. In his book All Around the Zodiac, astrologer Bill Tierney describes the Scorpio Sun, Libra Moon individual’s modus operandi of “first the velvet glove, then the iron fist”:

[This pairing] will negotiate first before resorting to hardball tactics to crush the opposition . . . others better not take advantage of our kindness and patience – which have their limits – since after bending over backwards enough times we’ll simply explode and do a lot of damage to those who have provoked us. Underneath the cultivated, polished way we handle ourselves in the world is more volatile temperament . . . There is much emotional power lurking beneath our surface charm. (Source)

Randy Savage’s ability to project an intensely “volatile temperament” and willingness to engage in “hardball tactics” was the lynchpin of his circa 1989 on-screen feud with Hulk Hogan (Terry Bollea). The feud the most financially successful storyline in professional wrestling (soap opera?) history in large part due to Savage’s capacity to come off as so intensely and authentically fed up with Hogan. The fighting in this clip is, of course, staged but Savage’s unhinged tirade touches on what was a real-world truth: that for years he had been bending over backwards to make his more ballyhooed colleague look his best without getting the same in return. Whether in the imaginal world or the real world, a Scorpio/Libra is only going to tolerate such an unbalanced state of affairs for so long before finally exploding:

Years later we would find out that in real life Savage actually did suspect Hogan was responsible for the dissolution of his marriage, a perception that would send a Sun/Moon pairing as commitment minded as Scorpio Sun, Libra Moon completely over the edge. When asked during a circa 1992 out-of-character interview if he ever cries, Savage responded:

It’s okay to show every emotion available, I’ve cried 1,000 times before and I’ll cry some more. I’ve soared with the eagles and slithered with the snakes and been everywhere in between.” (Source)

That’s about a good summary of the Scorpio Sun, Libra Moon individual’s emotional life as you’ll find: emotional powerful and intensely passionate, a seeker of balance but one prone to the occasional revenge fantasy or bout with fanaticism.

According to the Harveys, a metaphoric image for the highest expression of the Scorpio Sun, Libra Moon pairing is “A passionate poet leads a mass demonstration.” (Source) That’s a pretty good approximation of Randy Savage. He wasn’t a passionate poet who led mass demonstrations but he was a passionate performer who evoked the most compelling of emotions from masses of wrestling fans.

Scorpio Sun, Libra Moon Astro-Twins: Wrestler Randy Savage, Actor Leonardo Dicaprio

Actor Leonard Dicaprio is also a Scorpio Sun, Libra Moon. (Chart) A number of Dicaprio’s most famous roles have involved romantic partnerships, most notably Romeo in the 1996 remake of Romeo and Juliet and Jack Dawson in James Cameron’s epic 1997 film Titanic:

Not unlike some of the deeply romantic characters Leonardo Dicaprio has portrayed on stage and screen, the Scorpio Sun, Libra Moon individual can spend his or her entire life searching for their true love. Astrologer Jefferson Anderson writes of this pairing’s capacity for commitment:

Devotion is one of your favorite words, and you may search the globe trying to find someone worthy of your attention and fidelity. Once you do become attached, you will be a model of loyalty. (Source)

Randy Savage, for instance, married his second wife Lynn Payne in May of 2010 on the same beach they had originally fallen in love as teenagers. Savage was quoted at the time as saying, “Thirty-six years ago, Lynn and I met on Lido Beach. I feel so fortunate that I had a second chance to marry my first love, here where it all began.” (Source)

Many astrologers believe that if you scratch a sign you will find its opposite. Other metaphysical modalities have similar beliefs, that one’s external appearance is the opposite of what they are on the inside. It thus makes sense that somebody known as the “Macho Man” would actually be deeply romantic. As astrologer Hazel Dixon Cooper says of the Scorpio Sun, Libra Moon individual:

This combination wants a romance novel affair complete with happy ending. If you can be faithful, nurturing, and attentive, you’ll have hit one of the Universe’s jackpots. (Source)

Sadly, Savage died of a heart attack almost one year to the day after the above photo was taken.

Two weeks after his passing, Savage’s old colleague Hulk Hogan recalled a fortuitous encounter they had just a few months earlier in the middle of a hospital after not having spoken to each other in over 10 years:

I’m sitting there in the doctor’s office on the little chair and the door swings opens . . . I look up and it’s Randy! He was glowing, his eyes were bright, his spirit was up, he had a new wedding ring on! I just want to tell you guys he was up, he was really, really happy. He was in a really good place . . . we all love and miss him very much. (Source)

It makes sense that Savage’s spirit was in such a glowing state during the last months of his time on the earthly plane. For a Sun/Moon pairing as deeply romantic as Scorpio/Libra there’s no better way to spend the final year of their life then by the side of their beloved.

Libra Sun, Scorpio Moon: The Smooth Talking Spy and the Deep Cover Diplomat

October 16th, 2012 No comments

Libra is the Lover, the Artist, the Peacemaker, the Diplomat, the Statesmen, the Lawyer, and the Counselor. It is the sign most directly associated with elegance, social harmony, justice, and an innate awareness of “the other”. According to astrologer Sonya Magett, people with their Suns (conscious identity) in this dapper sign are the “Finesse Pimps” of the zodiac who keep their thread counts high and their drama quotients low. (Source) Don Cornelius, the founder and producer of the television show Soul Train, is a Libra Sun who represented well the stylish ways, smooth sociability, and sense of social justice that this sign is renown for. (Chart)

Scorpio, the sign immediately after Libra, is is the sign of the Shaman and the Spy, Sorceress and the Spell-Caster, the Hitman and the Detective, the Investment Banker and the Contract Killer, the Covert Op and the Deep Cover Cop. This is the sign most associated with depth and darkness, shadows and underworlds, covert operations and subterranean dealings. People with their Moons (emotional needs) in this secretive sign thus instinctually wired up for work in the clandestine services. To illustrate: using its establishment date of July 5th, 1865 as its date of birth, the United States Secret Service is a Scorpio Moon. (Source) The Central Intelligence Agency is also a Scorpio Moon. (Source)

Combine the smoothly diplomatic ways of a Libra Sun ala Don Cornelius with the covert instincts of a Scorpio Moon ala the Secret Service and you get a person who can thrive in artistic or social ventures (Libra) that require the native to walk through the valley of death (Scorpio). According to astrologers Charles and Suzi Harvey this is the combination of “. . . the blonde bombshell whose self-possession and sanguine smile says ‘don’t mess with me'”. (Source) Astrologer Jefferson Anderson observes that this pairing “possesses the style of the dove and the intensity of the hawk.” (Source) To illustrate: rapper Calvin Broadus Jr, best known as Snoop Dogg, is a Libra Sun, Scorpio Moon (Chart) Snoop’s combination of smooth, dove-like lyricism (Libra) and clandestine, hawk-like intensity (Scorpio) comes through with extreme clarity in the music video for the 1991 film Deep Cover, the video that launched his career. He’s obviously not an actual “blonde bombshell” but his self-possessed demeanor definitely communicates that he is not one to be messed with:

Using its television premier of 9/28/84 as its date of birth the hit 1980s television series Miami Vice is also a Libra Sun, Scorpio Moon. (Source) Not unlike Snoop Dog, Miami Vice displayed a Libra Sun’s sense of the suave spliced around a Scorpio Moon’s instincts for the deadly. The combination of the fashionable (Libra) and the clandestine (Scorpio) comes through quite clearly in the show’s now-iconic imagery:

Ecologically, Scorpio is the energy of the composting process in which old death is transmuted into new life. Libra, the sign of social justice, is at its best when reconciling divisions between people. Given the epidemic levels of death, decay, and social division now plaguing America, a Libra Sun, Scorpio Moon such as Snoop could be quite effective at navigating the current political landscape. Snoop as a political leader may sound a bit outlandish if you’ve seen some of his more irreverent performances – such as his brownie-baking appearance on Martha Stewart’s show – but here is a video of him discussing politics with Larry King and doing so with both smooth aplomb and a tangible air of gravitas:

Even if Snoop has no desire to get into political leadership, he would likely excel in film roles of a much more intensely political nature than those he’s taken to date. Actors do best when their roles match the traits found in their astrological charts and Snoop happens to have the same Sun/Moon pairing as the Black Panther Party, the revolutionary African American social movement of the 1960s and 1970s. Using their establishment date of 10/15/66 as their date of birth, the Black Panthers are also a Libra Sun, Scorpio Moon. (Black Panthers’ Chart)

Jimmy Carter, the only U.S. president who has had the intestinal fortitude to tell Americans the truth about their oil predicament, is a Libra Sun, Scorpio Moon. (Source) Despite their radically different external appearances, Carter and Snoop actually have quite a few things in common. Carter got his start in government as a young naval officer navigating the clandestine underworld of the 1940s submarine wars. Snoop got his start in music as a young rapper navigating the clandestine underworld of the 1990s gangster rap wars. The two ecosystems aren’t as different as one might think. Both involve deadly underworlds where deciphering friend from foe and up from down requires deftly honed sensitivities – which is exactly what the Libra Sun, Scorpio Moon person is in possession of.

People remember Carter as the kindly peanut farmer president but the reality is he was as tough a customer as they come. Take a look at the calm (Libra) intensity (Scorpio) emanating from his eyes during his days as a young submarine warfare officer. Then compare that to the look emanating from Snoop’s eyes as a young artist navigating an ecosystem every bit as opaquely threatening as the depths of the North Atlantic sea during World War II:

Libra Sun, Scorpio Moon: This pairing excels at deftly navigating even the most deadly of ecosystems

In both men what you see is “the blonde bombshell whose self possession says don’t mess with me”, even though neither man is literally a “blonde bombshell”.

Carter told it like it was in regards to the geopolitics of U.S. oil dependency, the Black Panthers told it like it was in regards to econo-politics of the prison industrial complex, and Snoop has a reputation for telling it like it is in regards to the socio-politics of the music industry. (Source) That all three would share a reputation for unflinching honesty regarding issues of life-and-death is no surprise given their Sun/Moon pairing. At its most effective expression, the Libra Sun, Scorpio Moon individual can remain calm and diplomatic (Libra) during times of intense crisis and change (Scorpio).

Libra Sun, Capricorn Moon: The Lawyer, the Client, and the Player-President

June 21st, 2012 No comments

Libra is the Lover, the Artist, the Peacemaker, the Diplomat, the Statesmen, the Counselor, and the Art Collector. This is the sign most associated with fairness, elegance, civility, beauty, aesthetics, and social harmony, as well as being considered the sign of marriage and 1-to-1 partnerships. Known for its natural sense of style, Libra is the sign most likely to have a walk-in closet for its elegantly tailored wardrobe and a bottle of Chanel #5 on its dresser drawer. Don Cornelius, the founder and producer of the television show Soul Train, is a Libra Sun who represented well the stylish ways and smooth sociability of this diplomatic sign. (Chart)

Libra is symbolized as the scales of justice which must be continually balanced. This is why you’ll find a disproportionate number of famous lawyers or justice-seekers born under this sign. Johhnie Cochran and John Lennon, for instance, are both Libra Suns.

Capricorn, sitting 90 degrees from Libra, is the sign of the Chief Executive, the Prime Minister, the Authority Figure, the Strategist, the Tycoon, and the Public Administrator. When a person’s Moon (emotional needs) is in Capricorn they are emotionally nourished by endeavors that require long term planning, strategic decision making, and near superhuman levels of self-discipline. It’s for this reason a disproportionate number of both army generals and leading men have their Moons in Capricorn. George Patton, George Clooney, Norman Schwarzkopf, Napolean Bonaparte, Lucille Ball, and the Whole Foods Corporation are all Capricorn Moons who have represented this lunar placement’s capacity for hoof-busting hard work and aptitude for the building of empires.

Capricorn and Libra form what’s known as a “square” aspect. Signs that square each other tend to knock heads as the goals, values, talents, and fears of each are inherently in conflict with the other. Consider, for instance, the differences between the textbook Libra and the textbook Capricorn. Libra values diplomacy and partnership while Capricorn values status and achievement. Libra’s demeanor is friendly and sociable while Capricorn’s is all business, no-nonsense. Libra wants to go out for a romantic night at the theater, Capricorn feels obligated to stay late at the office. Libra’s big challenge is being too passive, Capricorn’s big challenge is working too damn much. Libra fears being alone, Capricorn fears being poverty-stricken.

Libra Sun, Capricorn Moon: Social Savvy Meets Business Savvy

Now the two of them do have some things in common. They both, for instance, love designer labels. Libra Sun loves them because they make him look good, Capricorn Moon loves them because they indicate she’s achieved the success necessary to afford them.[caption id=”attachment_4102″ align=”aligncenter” width=”300″ caption=”Libra loves stylish threads and Capricorn loves status symbols. Both love designer labels.

More importantly, they both love order. Libra loves order in the social arena while Capricorn loves order in the business arena. That’s why the Libra Sun/Capricorn Moon pairing is excellent for management as it combines Libra’s social savvy with Capricorn’s business savvy. Libra knows how to keep its employees happy and cooperative while Capricorn knows how to keep them organized and on-task.

Libra Sun, Capricorn Moon: Ambition Never Looked So Fine

Hollywood Golden Era actress Joan Fontaine is a Libra Sun, Capricorn Moon. (Chart) Her rise to the top of the film business is a good example of how to get these two signs working together. Fontaine was a struggling young actress when she managed to sit herself next to producer David O. Selzneck at a dinner party. The two began discussing literature and next thing she knew Selzneck asked her to audition for the film Rebecca. According to Wikipedia, Fontaine then “endured a grueling six-month series of film tests, along with hundreds of other actresses, before securing the part some time before her 22nd birthday.” (Source)

Note how her success resulted in equal parts from who she positioned herself next to at a social gathering (Libra) and her ability to endure a grueling work schedule (Capricorn). She displayed Libra’s ability to charm while dining with the producer, then deployed Capricorn’s ability to grind while out-working the competition. By blending Libra’s social skills with Capricorn’s nose-to-the grindstone mentality, Fontaine was able to invest the stress of a tough Sun/Moon pairing into launching a career that ultimately spanned 54 years. The tension inside between her solar and lunar selves on inside her was probably key to her success within the ultra-competitive environment around her.

Actor Michael Douglas is a Libra Sun, Capricorn Moon well known in Hollywood circles for both his sociability and work ethic. (Chart) His role as the chief executive (Capricorn) seeking an equal partner (Libra) in the 1995 film American President is a nice, if idealized, projection of the Libra/Capricorn square:

Gavin Newsom, the former mayor of San Francisco known as much for his string of relationships as for his support of gay marriage, is also a Libra Sun, Capricorn Moon. (Chart) People with the same Sun/Moon pairing (“Astro-twins”) often bear a impossible to dismiss resemblance to each other even if they’re not related by blood. As a number of commentators have noted, Gavin Newsom bears an impossible to dismiss resemblance to Michael Douglas:

Curiously enough, Newsom’s rise to the top of California politics mirrors Joan Fontaine’s rise to the top of the film business. Newsom’s had to grind as much as any politician but he’s been helped tremendously by the fact his father is best friends with Gordon Getty. Getty, an elite Wall Street magnante, has opened doors for Newsom in much the same way elite Hollywood producer David Selzneck opened doors for Joan Fontaine. (Source) Newsom has also benefitted from a number of relationships with very high profile women. His first wife, Kimberly Guilfoyle, worked her way through law school as a Victoria Secret model while his current wife, Jennifer Siebel, is a well known Hollywood actress. As you can see, there is good reason why astrologer Jefferson Anderson refers to Libra Sun, Capricorn Moon as “The Social Climber”. (Source)

Libra Sun, Capricorn Moon: Machiavellian Mastermind or Icon of Life and Liberty

Speaking of social climbing, each of the 144 Sun/Moon pairings has it’s own dark side. Libra’s dark side is associated with vanity and social positioning while Capricorn’s dark side is associated with ruthless pursuit of status. Imagine a person possessing the instincts of Machiavelli and the wardrobe of Louis Vuitton and you’ll get a sense of this pairing’s modus operandi when it turns to its shadow side. Jefferson Anderson tells us that the Libra Sun, Capricorn Moon native has the potential to become “just another Iago” should they use their skills for selfish purposes. (Source) “Iago” is widely considered to be Shakespeare’s most evil villain, famous for engaging in some of the most ruthless social positioning schemes imaginable. (Source) Disgraced U.S. Army Colonel Oliver North, the Machiavellian mastermind of Iran Contra, is a Libra Sun, Capricorn Moon. (Chart)

Which brings us to a Libra Sun, Capricorn Moon individual who is to Oliver North what matter is to anti-matter. Bobby Seale, founder of the Black Panther Party, is a Libra Sun, Capricorn Moon. (Chart) Most (white) Americans think “omg scary black people with guns!” when they think of the Black Panther Party, an image that corporate owned media outlets were more than happy to emphasize. The reality of the party’s agenda was not so much about “hating whitey” as it was about community self-sufficiency in all matters: judicial, financial, and socio-political. In truth the Panthers’ agenda was not all that different then a blend of what you see coming out of the modern day doomsday prepper, tea-party, and transition/permaculture movements, albeit with a more distinctly provocative posture.

Ecologically, Libra is the sign of the autumnal equinox, a time of the year when night (black) and day (white) must exist in equal partnership with each other. Capricorn, the sign of the Authority Figure, is ruled by Saturn which in traditional astrological lore is the original agricultural CEO. (Source) Put the two together and you have somebody who can excel at the large scale organization (Capricorn) of legal/social systems (Libra).

According to astrologers Suzi and Charles Harvey, the Statue of Liberty is a good metaphoric image for the highest expression of Libra Sun, Capricorn Moon. (Source) Bobby Seale is obviously not the actual Statue of Liberty but he is an icon for life, liberty, and hard-earned happiness, the honest pursuit of which is the highest expression of the Libra/Capricorn pairing.

Cancer Sun, Libra Moon: The Smooth Operator and the Stylish Peacemaker, the Captain of Diplomacy and the CEO of Social Intercourse

April 4th, 2012 No comments

Considered the most intuitively shrewd of the twelve signs, Cancer perceives shifting tides of emotion as accurately as its animal symbol the crab perceives shifting tides of the ocean. This is why you’ll find a disproportionate number of Cancers in professions such as counseling and care-taking. When a person’s Sun (identity) is in Cancer they will to some degree be identified with their emotional intelligence.

Libra, sitting 90 degrees away from Cancer, is considered the most interpersonal of signs. It’s associated with fairness, elegance, civility, sociability, companionability, and excels at maintaining one-to-one partnerships. When a person’s Moon (emotional needs) is in Libra the feel emotionally nourished when doing things with another person, whether in the romantic or professional contexts.

Of the 144 Sun/Moon pairings, the Cancer Sun, Libra Moon pairing is one of the most socially aware as it combines the emotional intelligence of a Cancer Sun with the interpersonal instincts of a Libra Moon. It’s usually quite stylish, attuned to harmony, and in possession of a smooth, understated brand of sociability. New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter, for instance, is a Cancer Sun, Libra Moon whose appearance in a 2001 VISA commercial captures nicely the smooth, stylish, and oh-so-socially suave ways of this pairing. (Chart)

Jeter has graced the covers of GQ, Vanity Fair, and dozens of other fashion magazines. Exuding the natural social confidence the Cancer Sun, Libra Moon native is known for, he was a perfect fit for the Gillette company’s 2008 “Staying Alive” campaign alongside golfer Tiger Woods, whose presence now only serves to highlight Jeter’s gentlemanly demeanor:

The combination of an emotionally sensitive Cancer Sun and a highly social Libra Moon make for a Sun/Moon pairing that is superb at maintaining its poise even in tense situations that could easily escalate out of hand. Consider, for instance, this this video in which Jeter and his lady friend are harassed by the paparrazzi outside a cafe. The photographer is clearly trying to antagonize Jeter (“Why haven’t you married her? Why aren’t you at spring training already?”, he asks) but Jeter responds by gracefully (Libra) diffusing the situation with down-home Cancerian question about the photographer’s home:

At age 37, Jeter is closer to the end of his playing days than he is their beginning. So what comes after baseball? In a 2008 interview with Men’s Health, Jeter expressed interest in owning a major league baseball team someday. That seems a fitting post-career choice for Jeter as Cancer is considered the most financially shrewd of signs while naturally sociable Libra excels at relating to its employees. Heading up an organization as large and loaded with out-sized egos as a major league baseball team just so happens to be the darn near ideal job for Cancer Sun, Libra Moon individual. Of the 144 Sun/Moon pairings this is probably the best one at smoothing out interpersonal conflicts.

Owning a baseball team is certainly an ambitious goal but Jeter may want to consider setting his aims even higher. His North Node (destiny) is in Sagittarius, the sign of far ranging adventures and long distance travels. Curiously enough, the Apollo-Soyuz test project launched (born) July 15th, 1975 is also a Cancer Sun, Libra Moon with its North Node in Sagittarius. (Chart) The first joint space mission between the US and the USSR, the Apollo-Soyuz project is a great example of how smooth and socially diplomatic Cancer/Libra can be when operating when on the world stage:

The joint space mission between the U.S. and U.S.S.R. has some thematic similarities to the maiden voyage of the German luxury vessel The Von Steuben. The subject of a fascinating 2005 article in National Geographic magazine, the Von Steuben was the first German passenger liner to enter New York Harbor following the cessation of World War I. Using its launch date as its date of birth, the Von Steuben is also a Cancer Sun, Libra Moon. (Chart) The epitome of both high class style and cozy comfort for its era, it too was a symbol of post-war peace.

Now you can understand why even after 20 years under the spotlight in the pressure cooker that is the New York City media-celebrity complex it’s darn near impossible to find anybody who has anything bad to say about Derek Jeter. At its best the Cancer Sun, Libra Moon individual is as good keeping the peace as they are at looking stylish.

Sun in Aries, Moon in Libra: The Ghetto Fighters

March 22nd, 2012 No comments

Aries and Libra are opposite signs but opposites always have a lot in common. In the case of Aries and Libra, what they have in common is the capacity to fight. Aries fights using force, Libra fights using finesse. Aries is motivated by self-preservation, Libra by the desire for justice. Aries is oriented to the application of power, Libra is oriented to the balance of power. Aries is the Warrior who charges dead ahead at the enemy, Libra is the General who anticipates their next move. Together these two signs form the “confrontation axis” of the Zodiac. Using its operational start date as its date of birth, the uprising in the Warsaw Ghetto was an Aries Sun, Libra Moon. (Chart) It’s arguably one of the best examples of righteous confrontation and organized resistance of the last 100 years:

Jefferson Anderson refers to Aries Sun, Libra Moon is the Sun/Moon pairing of “The Rebel” who is darn near unmatchable when it comes to “sheer determination, boldness, and aggression.” (Source) Amy Goodman is an Aries Sun, Libra Moon best known as the hard-charging, trouble-making, rabble-rousing host of Democracy Now. (Chart) As you might expect from somebody with an astrological pedigree so oriented towards confrontation, Goodman has made a career of doing battle with society’s most entrenched power structures. During one particularly notable battle at the 2008 Republican National Convention she was arrested by police officers in full SWAT gear:

Getting arrested at the RNC was a walk in the park compared to some of Goodman’s previous confrontations. According to Wikipedia, “In 1991, Goodman was beaten by Indonesian soldiers after witnessing a mass killing of Timorese demonstrators. In 1998, she documented Chevron Corporation’s role in a confrontation between the Nigerian Army and villagers who had seized oil rigs.” As Jefferson Anderson writes of Aries Sun, Libra Moon individual, “Your kind of determination is likely to get you into trouble . . .” (Source)

Actor and martial arts expert Steven Seagal is also an Aries Sun, Libra Moon. (Chart) Best known for playing cops, soldiers, and other bad-asses, Seagal’s also been involved in a number of environmentally conscious films that would make his soul-sister Amy Goodman quite proud. In 1994 he directed and starred in On Deadly Ground, the plot of which bears an eerie resemblance to the BP oil spill of 2010:

In 1997 Seagal made another environmentally themed film, Fire Down Below, in which he plays an EPA agent fighting industrialists dumping toxic waste in the Kentucky hills. Actors do their best work in roles that line up with their charts. It’s thus no surprise that Aries Sun, Libra Moon native Steven Seagal excels at projecting into the imaginal world of film the same capacity for confrontation that Aries Sun, Libra Moon native Amy Goodman projects across the radio airwaves.

Rowdy Rowdy Piper, best known as a professional wrestler, is also an Aries Sun, Libra Moon. (Chart) His fight scene with actor Keith David in the 1988 film They Live is considered one of the all time best, possibly the best, fight scene in the history of film. (Source)

Speaking of Aries Sun, Libra Moon individuals and epic fights: Sandra Fluke, the Georgetown Law Student whose Congressional testimony set off a firestorm regarding women’s reproductive rights, is an Aries Sun, Libra Moon. (Chart) Fluke’s entire chart, in fact, is loaded with Aries/Libra oppositions which means she is hard-wired to confront injustice:

Fluke testified before Congress just as transiting Saturn (maturity) was conjuncting her natal Pluto (extremes), a transit associated with “hard won excellence” similar to the process a piece of coal undergoes when it is turning into a diamond. In the case of Fluke, the “hard won excellence” she’s earned is in maters of confrontation (Aries) regarding issues of balance of power (Libra). While not intending it at the time of her testimony, she’s probably done more to stop fascist gasbag Rush Limbaugh in his tracks than a roundhouse kick from Steven Seagal or a clothesline from Rowdy Rowdy Piper, two of Fluke’s Aries Sun, Libra Moon soul-brothers.

South Node in Libra, North Node in Aries: From Smooth as Silk to Bad to the Bone, From If Looks Could Kill to There Will be Fisticuffs

March 22nd, 2012 1 comment

South Node in Libra: Symbol of Past Lives in the Sign of Good Looks, Treachery Disguised as Diplomacy

Libra is the Lover, Artist, Peacemaker, Diplomat, Statesmen, and Counselor of the zodiac. Libra is the sign most directly associated with elegance, social harmony, an innate awareness of the other, and a superb sense of aesthetics. People with their South Node (past lives) in this super-suave sign thus come into this life with these skills already very well-developed. They may also have fallen into the dark side of this sign: co-dependency, subtle treachery disguised as diplomacy, and relying on their looks, charm, and/or ability to manipulate others to get what they want.

North Node in Aries: Point of Destiny in Sign of the Trailblazer, the Ass-Kicker, and Amazon Warrior

The North Node is the solution to any problems, pitfalls, excesses or traumas of the South Node. You can think of the North Node as a person’s destiny, should they choose to accept it. If you don’t believe in “destiny”, you can think of the North Node as being akin to an astrological vitamin cocktail that will remedy what ails you even if it tastes unfamiliar at first.

When the South Node is in Libra, the North Node is in Aries, the sign of the Trailblazer, the Daredevil, the Warrior, the Survivor, the Competitor, the “Ass-Kicker” of the Zodiac. Aries’s role is to clear pathways, dive into the unknown, and fearlessly face dangers that would send other signs trembling and turning tail. Ecologically, Aries is associated with the spring equinox when plants are courageously bursting through the soil and animals are emerging from hibernation to battle for both territory and mating opportunities. It is symbolized by the Ram who will, quite literally, go head to head against adversaries.

Aries is symbolized by the Ram who goes head-to-head.

People with their South Node in Libra are often fixated on relationships but, ironically, the only way they will ever satisfy their relational fixation is by stepping into their ass-kicking North Node.

Mixed Martial Arts superstars Miesha Tate and Ronda “Rowdy” Rousey both have their South Nodes in Libra and their North Nodes in Aries. (Tate’s Chart) (Rousey’s Chart) Take a look at the press conference held during the lead up to their title match on March 3rd, 2012 for a good example of this nodal axis at work. In terms of hair, clothes, and aesthetics, both women obviously have their Libra “Finesse Pimp” skills down pat. They also have both clearly stepped into their Aries “Ass-Kicker” North Nodes:

Libra socializes its way into a room, Aries busts through the door boots kickin’ and fists flyin’. Libra is a natural at the negotiating table, Aries prefers to flip tables, as the above video makes clear.

Actress Lucy Lawless, best known for portraying “Xena Warrior Princess”, has her South Node in Libra and North Node in Aries just like Miesha Tate and Ronda Rousey. (Chart) Lawless has never fought competitively like Tate or Rousey but she has done an excellent job of projecting the warrior spirit of her Aries North Node into the imaginal world of stage and screen:

Lawless – whose last name practically screams “I’m Aries, bitch!” – has benefited from having a Sun/Moon conjunction in Aries as well as having Saturn (wisdom, maturity) conjunct her North Node. According to Celeste Teal, Saturn conjunct the North Node is associated with taking a very practical, patient, and self-disciplined approach to the work represented by the North Node. (Source)

Rapper LL Cool J, short for “Ladies Love Cool James”, has his South Node in Libra and North Node in Aries. (Chart) He chose his oh-so Libra stage name at age 16, a time when most people have yet to begin fully accessing their North Node. Here is a video of his very Libresque song “I Need Love” from early on in his career:

A few years later he made the video “I’m Bad” in which he must rescue his girlfriend from underworld types while dressed in an all red track suit, wearing converse sneakers, and displaying a series of over-sized gold chains. It doesn’t get any more Aries than this:

LL’s later videos such as “Mama Said Knock You Out” (filmed in a boxing ring) and “Tina’s Got a Big Ole Butt” (about a young lady with a big ole butt) also accessed the straight shooting bravado and libidinous energies of his Aries North Node.

The all-time flag bearer for a person who has managed to incorporate the super suave “game” of a Libra South Node with the adrenalin laced physicality of an Aries North Node could be actor Sean Connery, whose name is still synonymous with the iconic British spy he portrayed during the 1960s. (Connery’s Chart)

Out of curiosity I ran the chart for the James Bond character using the publication date of Ian Fleming’s first James Bond novel Casino Royale as Bond’s date of birth. (Chart) The book – and thus its main character Mr. Bond – has its Sun at 23 degrees Aries and Moon at approximately 18 degrees Aries. Connery’s North Node is at 24 degrees Aries. In other words, the two luminaries (Sun and Moon) of the James Bond character light up Connery’s North Node (destiny) like a pair of flood lights. Portraying that character truly was his destiny.

Mars at Zero Degrees Libra: "Revenge, my dear captain, is a dish best served cold. It is very cold in space . . ."

January 11th, 2012 No comments

The four Zero Points: 0 degrees Aries, 0 degrees Cancer, 0 degrees Libra, and 0 degrees Capricorn are considered the four most potent, powerful, and explosive degrees of the 360 degrees that comprise the zodiac. (Source)

To illustrate how planets express themselves through the four Zero Points, consider the film Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan. Born (released) May 4th, 1982 the film has Mars at zero degrees Libra. (Natal Chart) Its trailer will give you an idea of the colossal amounts of energy this placement is associated with:

Libra is usually associated with peace and diplomacy but that’s not necessarily the case when it’s Mars in Libra. When Mars is in Libra what you’re looking at is a confrontation (Mars) between equally matched opposites (Libra). When you think Mars in Libra think of “a duel”, be it a duel under the blazing sun of the Western frontier or a duel in the icy coldness of outer space. The duel between Kirk and Khan portrayed in Star Trek is thus a great metaphor for how Mars at 0 degrees Libra will often express itself: an absolutely explosive (Zero Point) confrontation (Mars) between equally matched opposites (Libra).

The Sabian Symbol for 0 Degrees Libra is “A man with a pistol in each hand walks in a barren land, unaware that he is followed by a man holding a sword.” (Source) That’s a pretty good metaphor for the way Mr. Khan stalks Kirk through the barren vastness that is deep space.

Truly great films always have endings that correspond to their North Node, the astrological symbol of a person’s destiny should they choose to accept it. The Wrath of Khan’s North Node is in Cancer, the sign of the Great Mother. At the film’s conclusion the Genesis Device, the ultra powerful terra-forming device Mr. Khan had attempted to weaponize, is used to birth a new planet.

Five Great Examples of Super-Suave Libra Men at Their Finest

October 11th, 2011 No comments

Looking for a man who knows how to dress well, smells nice, carries himself with grace, and is a natural at relating to others? Then you may want to consider a Libra, the sign of balance, harmony, and partnership. Check out the following examples of Libra men for a taste of what the seventh sign of the Zodiac has to offer:

#1) Miss Piggy Puts the Moves on Actor Roger Moore

Is it any surprise that an actor who portrayed super-smooth ladies-man James Bond more times (7) than any other Bond actor would have a Sun/Mars conjunction in Libra, the sign of the super-smooth ladies-man? (See Chart) It shouldn’t be as Libra is the Zodiac’s Olympic gold champion when it comes to being popular with the chosen gender. It’s also the sign most likely to already be in a relationship, as Miss Piggy found out when she put the moves on Roger Moore in this circa 1985 episode of The Muppets:

Miss Piggy shouldn’t give up on Roger just yet though. As Ren Alexander and Geraldine Rose explain in their book Seduction by the Stars, “Libra is the sign about which you can feel least morally squeamish when it comes to tossing your hat in the ring with a number of hats already lying there. Libra has an eye out for an improved version of their current partner.” (Source)

#2) Don Cornelius: So Cool the Man Could Freeze Hell Over

According to Sonya Magett and Rob Marriot, the authors of Astrology Uncut: The Street Smart Guide to the Stars, Libra is the “Finesse Pimp” of the zodiac, with a “Game Quotient” of 10 and a “Drama Quotient” of only 2. (Source) Is there any man in show business who more embodies the term “Finesse Pimp” than Don Cornelius of Soul Train fame? With both his Sun and Venus in this finesse-oriented sign, Cornelius is “so cool he could freeze hell over”, as one commenter said of this circa 1975 video:

The thing about Cornelius is he was much more than just the host of a popular television show. He was the founder of Soul Train, which was very much a pioneering project for its time. This is, again, an example of how signs always have a lot in common with their opposite sign. Aries is considered the trailblazer of the Zodiac but it was an uber-Libra like Don Cornelius who created a show as socially and musically trailblazing as Soul Train.

#3) Derek Jeter: A Super Smooth Libra Moon, On And Off the Field

With his Moon, Pluto, and Uranus in this stylish sign, it’s no wonder NY Yankess shortstop Derek Jeter has graced the covers of GQ, Vanity Fair, and dozens of other fashion magazines. Exuding the natural confidence Libra is known for, he was a perfect fit for the Gillette company’s 2008 “Staying Alive” campaign alongside golfer Tiger Woods, whose presence now only serves to highlight Jeter’s gentlemanly Libra demeanor:

Don’t think Jeter’s classy persona is just an act for the cameras. Even when mobbed by fans, Jeter is known for maintaining the grace you’d expect from somebody with a Moon/Pluto conjunction in smooth-as-silk Libra. As a writer for CBS News observed of Jeter when out in public, “In the time it takes him to order a java chip frappucino, Jeter poses for eight photos snapped by owners of camera phones, shakes five hands and signs seven autographs, never losing his gracious manner.” (Source)

#3) Snoop Dog and Buzz Aldrin Cut a Rap Album Together

As the sign most associated with an innate awareness of the other, a major theme for Libra is the concept of “social intercourse”. You will be hard pressed to find a better example of “social intercourse” then rapper Snoop Dog’s 2009 rap song collaboration effort with 80 year old former astronaut Buzz Aldrin, who Snoop nicknamed “Doc Renedevous”. (Source)

Perhaps not coincidentally, Buzz’s Moon is at 19 degrees Libra, conjunct Snoop’s Sun at 26 degrees Libra. In Western Astrology, a Sun/Moon conjunction between two individuals is considered a five star synastry contact, excellent for marriage or any other 1-to-1 partnership such as collaboration on a rap album.

#4) Bill Clinton Smacks Around Fox News Reporter Chris Wallace

Libra is known as the peacekeeper of the Zodaic but don’t let this fool you into thinking this sign can’t or won’t fight. Bill Clinton, for instance, is a Leo Sun but has Mars, Venus, Neptune, and his Ascendant all in Libra. Like many people with a Libra emphasis in their chart, Bill has been known expend so much energy trying to maintain that sense of balance that he eventually just snaps, as he did during this appearance with Fox News reporter Chris Wallace:

Of course it’s hard to talk about Bill Clinton without mentioning infidelity. While Libra is famously considered the sign of “balance”, it is also the sign that can balance multiple relationships behind your back while maintaining the appearance of an ideal marital union. As astrologer Stella Hyde writes of Sun/Mars conjunctions in Libra, like the one found in Bill’s chart, “if your Mars is in Libra as well as your Sun, you often find yourself with your pants down and in no position to fight.” (Source)

#5 Mohandas Gandhi: The Icon of Libran Values . . . but with a Scorpionic Twist

There are few, if any, individuals who better embody the highest expressions of the Libra archetype than Libra Sun Mohandas Gandhi. (See Chart) A lawyer and civil rights champion, Gandhi led India to independence from Britain by way of peaceful non-violence, the ultimate Libra value.

But life wasn’t all Libra sugar for Mr. Gandhi. According to his Wikipedia entry, Gandhi “was in his mid-30s and the father of five sons when he vowed celibacy and it became a continual trial. He was a great flirt and spent his life tempting fate. A long line of secretary-nurse-companions massaged him, bathed him and even slept with him to keep him warm.” (Source) Seems a rather peculiar path for a marriage-minded Libra but keep in mind the man did had Mars, Venus, and Mercury all in Scorpio – the sign most likely to congregate at the extremes of any human behavior bell curve. As always, a person is more than just their Sun sign, including lovely Libras.

Venus Saturn Conjunction in Libra: Love Built to Last

October 2nd, 2011 No comments

We’re in the middle of a Venus/Saturn conjunction in Libra. Venus is the planet of love; Saturn is the planet of hard work, boundaries, and things built to last; Libra is the sign of one-to-one partnerships. Put the three together and the theme is “love built to last.”

This video of an older couple playing with their laptop’s webcam, not aware it was recording them, went viral a few weeks ago when Venus hit zero degrees Libra. Words don’t do its hilarity and sweetness justice other than to say it’s a really great example of the energy of a Venus/Saturn conjunction in Libra:

ABC News did an article on the couple and their video shortly after it first went viral: Elderly Couple Viral Video Sensations

As far as their signs/charts: I’d guess he’s either a Leo or has Leo emphasized in his chart. Leo is the entertainer of the Zodiac, known for its stage presence. I’d guess she is either a Taurus or has Taurus emphasized in her chart. Taurus is great with objects and quite pragmatic. While he is hamming it up for the camera she’s thinking about how to get the thing to actually work.
