Mercury (communication) is about to go retrograde (the past) so it’s a good time to dig up old stories relevant to current ones, particularly any relating to blackmail as blackmail is a theme very relevant to the current transit of Saturn (brass tack reality, repression) through Scorpio (secrets). By now you’ve heard about Edward Snowden, the NSA whistle blower who recently leaked information regarding the NSA’s “PRISM” surveillance system. You may not have heard about Russel Tice, a former NSA signals intelligence officer who in 2006 tried to speak to Congress about an NSA program so terrifying that in his words:
. . . there’s no way the programs I want to talk to Congress about should be public ever, unless maybe in 200 years they want to declassify them. You should never learn about it; no one at the NY Times should ever learn about these things. (Source)
Tice has stayed largely out of the media spotlight for the last few years until three days ago when he gave an interview to Sibel Edmonds’ site Boiling Frogs Post blog. According to Tice, during his time at the NSA he was involved on spying on:
. . . high ranking military officers, members of Congress, heaps of lawyers and law firms, state department officials, judges [including] one now sitting on the Supreme Court, two former FISA court judges, anti-war groups, US companies that do international business around the world, US banking firms and financial firms that do international business . . . (Source)
Forty eight minutes into his interview Tice says the NSA even spied on Barack Obama and his staff during his time as an Illinois Senator. (No joke) As Tice explains, surveillance of individuals in such positions of power has the potential for massive blackmail. Tice seems to imply that much of the spying he was doing involved space based satellites, not phone lines or email. An excerpt from the interview:
Later Tice drops the bombshell that his sources inside the NSA have told him that the agency has 1) spied on all the Supreme Court judges and 2) has wiretapped the phones of Hilary Clinton, John McCain, and others. He also mentions getting information from “Burn Bags”, which is slang for containers that “hold sensitive or classified documents which are to be destroyed by fire or pulping after a certain period of time”. You can listen to Tice’s interview in its entirety here.
Prior to being interviewed by Boiling Frog Post, Tice was also interviewed by MSNBC. Moments before going live, however, Tice was warned by MSNBC officials not to mention his allegations pertaining to NSA wiretapping of Obama, judges or activists. (Source)
